How to Use Email Aliases on Your Own Domain

Learn how to connect your own domain to Tonmly and create custom email aliases like you@yourdomain.com that forward to your existing inbox.

What Are Custom Domain Email Aliases?

A custom domain email alias lets you use your own domain name for email forwarding. For example, instead of name@Tonmly, you can receive email at you@yourdomain.com and have it delivered to your existing inbox.

This is perfect if you want:

  • A professional address on your own domain (like hello@yourbrand.com).
  • To keep using your current mailbox while branding your email.
  • To protect your real inbox while still receiving messages.

What You Need Before You Start

To use email aliases on your own domain, you’ll need:

  • A domain name you own (for example, yourdomain.com).
  • Access to your domain’s DNS settings at your registrar or DNS provider.
  • A Premium plan on Tonmly — custom domain email aliases are a Premium feature.

How to Connect Your Domain

First, you’ll connect your domain to Tonmly so we can handle email forwarding for it.

  1. Sign in to your Tonmly account and go to Email Domains in your dashboard.
  2. Click “Add Domain” (or similar option).
  3. Enter your domain name (for example, yourdomain.com).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the required DNS records (usually MX and sometimes TXT or CNAME records) at your domain provider.
  5. Return to Tonmly and click “Verify domain”.

Once your domain is verified, it will appear in your Email Domains list and be available when creating aliases.

How to Create an Alias on Your Domain

After your domain is connected and verified, you can create aliases that use it.

  1. Go to Email Aliases in your dashboard.
  2. Click “Create New Alias”.
  3. Choose your connected domain from the domain dropdown (for example, @yourdomain.com).
  4. Enter the alias name (for example, support, hello, or jobs).
  5. Add one or more destination email addresses where email should be delivered.
  6. Click “Create” — your custom domain alias is now live.

Any email sent to alias@yourdomain.com will now be forwarded to the destination inbox(es) you chose.

Free vs Premium for Custom Domains

Custom domain email aliases are part of our Premium offering. Free accounts are limited to aliases on the Tonmly domain only.

  • Free: Use a limited number of aliases on the @Tonmly domain.
  • Premium: Connect your own domain and create unlimited custom-domain aliases.

Managing Custom Domain Aliases

You manage custom domain aliases in the same place as your regular aliases. From your Email Aliases page, you can:

  • Update the destination address(es).
  • Disable or pause forwarding for an alias.
  • Delete an alias completely if you no longer need it.

If you remove or change your domain’s DNS records away from Tonmly, email forwarding for aliases on that domain will stop working until the required records are restored.

FAQs

Yes, Premium users can connect multiple domains (subject to plan limits) and create aliases on any connected domain.

Email aliases are primarily for forwarding. Replies are typically sent from your primary mailbox. Some email providers allow you to configure “Send as” or “From” addresses using your domain — you can set that up in your email client or mailbox provider if supported.
